BUCKET LIST

Hello blogging world.  Today I am doing a spring cleaning of sorts, attempting to clean up my drop-box folder.  Going through memories captured by photo of loves ones is always a difficult thing for me.  Some photos are of those who have long passed and some are of life that is just beginning.  The past few days I been engaging with my twitter buddy “Mr. T” in musical tastes and it’s decided that we would compile a top favorite artist list. Why stop there?  Thanks to Mr. T, I am inspired to do more than just a favorite artist list and create a bucket list.

My thinking is this, if I won the lottery what places would be on my bucket list?  I broke down my list and decided to start with seven wonders of the world.  I have experience two; the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls.  Both of these wonders are powerful and quite overwhelming.  The first time I laid eyes on the Grand Canyon I was moved to tears.  Just standing on the edge looking down into this canyon craved by the might of water is powerful.  Both wonders really make you think on a grand-scale how incredibly small us humans really are.

Because there are seven natural wonders of the world I will provide a brief synopsis on two and the rest will be listed only because I don’t have the time to write for each and this is a blog not a book report.  To know more about each wonder please click the links (in red).

Let’s begin:

The Sphinx of Giza:  If I could I would hop on a plane headed for Cairo.  Cairo a land of mystery and beauty.  Home to a few popular wonders like the actually highway to hell Luxor-Hurghada. The Luxor-Hurghada highway is a four-hundred mile road that connects the cities Luxor to Hurghada.  What makes this highway popular is the high crimes rate.  This road is named one of the seven dangerous road in the world because of the pirates that thrives there.  They said if to travel this road daytime is the best but no guarantee for safety.  Yes that dangerous, however, Egypt is also known for the beautiful pyramid of Giza.  As intriguing as the pyramid is I want to see the Sphinx.  Sphinx is Greek for “mythical creature” serves as a backdrop to the pyramid of Giza.  This beautiful monument dates back to 1400 B.C. and is believed to belong to a pharaoh called Thutmose of the 18th dynasty.  Standing at a whopping sixty-six inches, the statue is made of limestone.  There’s something intriguing and mysterious about the Sphinx and is is the very reason why it’s on my bucket list.

The Taj Mahal:  Taj Mahal sits on the bank of Yamuna river in the city of Agra. A mausoleum that house the reminds of its name sake Mumtaz Mahal and her husband Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.  After Mumtaz death giving birth to their fourteenth child in sixteen-thirty one, Shah Jahan had the Taj Mahal commissioned in her honor.  The burial chamber on the upper floor house a sarcophagi or “fake graves”.  The actual graves are located in the lower level. Completed in sixteen-fifty three, the cost is estimated at a staggering $32 million rupees translate to over $827 million dollars in today money.  Known as the monument of undying love, the structure consists of white marble statues and vaulted halls and the tops are finished in a finial knob type design.  The Finial was originally made with gold but since been removed and replaced with bronze marrying traditional elements from Persian and Hindu. This location also boast beautiful gardens and smaller architectural buildings. Fun fact over seven million tourist visits the Taj Mahal per year, making my list of the seven wonders of the world.

  1. I love the idea of sharing your bucket list! I think one thing I’d really love to tick off my own bucket list would be to go on a cruise!
