Eye to the Telescope, 2004
I grew up knowing I could have had a million different lives. It makes your life mysterious and your imagination go wild.”

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog post, where today I will be discussing one of my favorite artists – KT Tunstall. KT Tunstall is the ultimate rockstar and my go-to music artist, especially when I am going through a manic-depressive episode or what I call my “Chum.” Music has always been a source of comfort for me during tough times, and KT’s music holds a special place in my heart. KT’s music is timeless, classic, and meaningful. I believe she is one of the greatest artists of our time, up there with icons like “Carole King” “Melissa Etheridge” and “Carly Simon.” Her relatability, kindness, and unique voice all come together to create music that heals and brings comfort. Her debut album “Eye to the Telescope” is especially close to my heart, as it contains some of the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard.

Kin, 2016
My songs examine and explore little specific emotions or situations or stories… They’re kitchen table songs, like a conversation between me and one other person. It’s almost like an alien has been sent to get emotional samples from human beings and put it all together on a record.

One of my favorite albums of KT’s is “Eye to the Telescope.” Among the many beautiful tracks that make up this album, three songs that resonate deeply with me are “Otherside Of The World’,  “Love Is An Ocean” and “Maybe It’s a Good Thing.”  (Kin LP) Love Is An Ocean (Kin LP) is a beautiful ballad with poetic lyrics that bring hope and calm. It is a reminder that love is an endless, powerful force, one that cannot be contained, and that ultimately, it will guide us back to where we belong. Meanwhile, Maybe It’s a Good Thing is an impactful song that speaks to many, as it emphasizes the importance of self-love and knowing our self-worth. Not just settling in a relationship.

Wax, 2018
I’m not exactly sure what has driven me so hard… I’ve never questioned it. I’ve never had a back-up plan. I was never going to do anything else.

As someone who struggles with bipolar disorder, these lyrics remind me of the importance of learning to love and accept myself completely, with all my strengths and weaknesses. KT’s latest album, “Nut,” is the final installment in a trilogy of albums (Wax, Kin and Nut) that is focused on the soul, body, and mind. The songs on this album are deeply relatable, with lyrics that will leave you feeling seen, heard, and understood. For me, “Dear Shadow” hits home, as it explores the feeling of being held back by our past mistakes and our inner demons. It speaks to the feeling of wanting to break free but not knowing how, of walking every shade of who we are and wanting to start again.

Nut, 2022
I’ve been lonely
Keeping you back there behind me
Got this swollen feeling
We could make amends
But you’re holding me back
Yeah, you’re holding me back
I just want to run
“Dear shadow
Walking every shade of who I am
Maybe we could start again?

What I love most about KT Tunstall’s music is that it explores little specific emotions or situations, giving the impression of a conversation between the artist and the listener. Her lyrics are beautifully crafted by exploring the intricacies of human emotions, which makes her music relatable to so many of us. KT’s music provides a feeling of happiness, hope, and comfort, which is why I turn to it during challenging times.  KT Tunstall’s music has the power to heal, to make us feel seen and heard. Her relatable lyrics, unique voice, and beautiful melodies all come together to create music that touches the soul. If you haven’t already, I urge you to give her music a listen, and let her voice guide you through whatever it is you may be going through. This is why KT Tunstall is the ultimate rockstar.

Remember to be kind!
